A 501(c)(3) community development center founded in 2015 that provides a food pantry with meats, vegetables, and dry goods, a clothing closet with work, school, and everyday attire, and basic necessities and toiletries. Supportive services include financial literacy and money management training, a Southside Work Program for job readiness skills, case management, mental health referrals through a partnership with Thriveworks Counseling and Psychiatry, health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, and HIV, and housing assistance. The Because We Care Closets program also places nonperishable food, clothing, and school supplies in local schools for students and teachers.
