The Playstreets program, run by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, closes a designated neighborhood block to vehicle traffic each weekday during the summer so children have a safe outdoor place to play and gather. Each Playstreet is supervised by a trained community volunteer and provides free nutritious meals and snacks through the city's USDA-funded Summer Food Service Program. The block is set up with play kits such as hula hoops, balls, jump ropes, and chalk.
