Philadelphia Parks & Recreation's Playstreets program closes a designated city street to traffic so neighborhood children have a safe place to play when school is out, with play equipment (hula hoops, balls, ropes, chalk) provided. The Summer Food Service Program supplies free daily lunches and snacks to children 18 and younger through USDA's summer meals program, so kids get nutrition they would otherwise miss while school is closed.
