All-volunteer, restaurant-style soup kitchen and social-service agency known to guests as The Meatloaf Kitchen. Founded in 1982 by two professors who saw unmet need in their Greenwich Village neighborhood, the program runs entirely on volunteer labor with no paid staff. Guests are seated and served with the courtesy of a restaurant rather than a food line. Meals include fresh seasonal garden-to-table produce and vegetarian options alongside the signature meatloaf lunch. On-site outreach and social services connect guests with housing and shelter referrals, healthcare navigation, employment assistance, resume help, legal-aid referrals, SNAP and food-stamp registration, computer access, language and translation services, drug and alcohol rehabilitation referrals, and vision screening. The affiliated La Meatloaf Boutique runs an emergency clothing distribution with periodic coat giveaways.
