Hunger isn’t about scarcity. It’s about access.
We’re on a mission to ensure that accessing food assistance is an easy, reliable, and dignified experience for everyone.
Our Story
Lemontree started in June 2020 with a simple idea: no one should go hungry. When we learned that most people facing food insecurity don’t take the free food in their own neighborhood, we jumped into action.
What started as a local helpline has grown into a platform that now helps over 18,000 people navigate food assistance daily, across eleven regions. Since then, we’ve spoken with half a million families, evolving our tools based on their needs: reliable information; personalized support; and honest reviews to help others know what to expect.
We build alongside the people we serve and the partners who power the local safety net—from neighborhood pantries to national orgs. Everything we do is grounded in our belief that empathy, empowered by technology, can change the world.
We’ve grown far beyond that first helpline, but the core of the work has always been about surfacing our neighbor’s experiences to make things better. We believe that this listening, at scale, is the foundation of a smarter, more human food system–one built from the ground up.
What We Do

For Neighbors
Our free tools—available by text, WhatsApp, and web—help people find nearby pantries, get updates, and access personalized support, all backed by honest reviews from others who've been there.

For Partners
We partner with food pantries and community organizations to visualize their impact and communicate updates so neighbors know what to expect. Empowering local stakeholders with technology means we can improve coordination and strengthen local safety nets.
Beyond
Looking ahead, we see powerful potential in our data to surface structural gaps, elevate community-driven solutions, and inform policy and program design. We believe community feedback can & should shape the future of food assistance: guiding better programs, smarter policy, and a system designed for people, not pounds of food.
