The Spanish Speaking Elderly Council - RAICES runs the Times Plaza Older Adult Center as a neighborhood hub for older adults. In addition to distributing groceries through a common food pantry, the center provides hot daily meals, benefits and entitlements navigation, and a full calendar of wellness, educational, and recreational activities. Founded in 1978 by retired Latino community members, RAICES focuses on serving Latino, African-American, and low-income seniors across Brooklyn and Queens. Bilingual English and Spanish staff deliver culturally responsive support, and case managers help members access services like Medicaid, SNAP, and housing assistance. The pantry component addresses food insecurity among seniors who face ongoing challenges accessing nutritious food in their community.
